About the Women's Center of Jacksonville

In 1995, in a single rented room in an aging house in Riverside, the Women's Center of Jacksonville was born. The Women's Center was created to help women overcome social, economic, and personal barriers. Originally a referral service, it grew to fill the need for better and more compassionate services and, in some cases, to fill a void where there were no services at all.

As services evolved, the center grew out of its one room and claimed the entire house and, then, the house next door. Despite this growth, women still waited to receive the services they need. In 2002, the ideal location was found—a 7300 square foot professional building just off University Boulevard, adjacent to the Clifton neighborhood of Arlington.

Today, the Women's Center of Jacksonville touches the lives of nearly 10,000 women and girls every year.

Core Purpose: We are dedicated to improving the lives of women.

Philosophy: We believe women and men should share equally the resources and opportunities to achieve individual, social, political, and economic goals.

Mission: The mission of the Women's Center of Jacksonville is to support and empower women and to nurture mind, body, and spirit.

Vision: The Women's Center of Jacksonville is an inviting place for all women, offering a broad range of services in an environment that adapts to the changing needs of women. With the collaborative efforts of a professional staff, a focused board, and an organized volunteer base, the Women's Center is recognized as a leader for women's issues and a visible, effective advocate for equality and social change.

Our Guiding Principles are essential values that guide how we do business and interact with one another:

  • Dignity: We value women, take pride in their greatness, and honor their worth.
  • Integrity: We have the courage to make ethical decisions, even when faced with difficult choices.
  • Balance: We encourage women to make choices which bring harmony and balance to their lives.
  • Advocacy: We work for and support social change that empowers women.
  • Respect : We honor the collective wisdom of women and celebrate the feminine spirit.
  • Passion: We are passionate about who we are and what we do.

Come in and see the new exhibit at the Women’s Center of Jacksonville. The ONE in THREE exhibit lifts the faces and stories of 20 current and former Duval County Public School students through dramatic portraits by photographer Ingrid Damiani.
Their stories demonstrate the power of an engaged community that works ONE by ONE to ensure that all students are successful in school. They show the need for every person in our city to get involved in public education. In their eyes, you will find no despair—only hope.
