Shirley K. Webb, M.Ed, LMHC

Shirley K. Webb, M.Ed, LMHC
Executive Director

Shirley Webb has been active in changing the lives of women in the Jacksonville community for over 30 years. In the mid 1970's she was one of the founders of Hubbard House, the thirteenth shelter in the nation and the first in the Southeast to serve victims of domestic violence. Ms. Webb was the first executive director of Hubbard House and remained on its Board of Directors for many years. In 1987, Ms. Webb instigated the creation of the University of North Florida Women's Center with $5,000 in start-up funds from the Student Government Association in a one-room office. During the eight years as the UNF Women's Center's full time volunteer director, she contributed over 10,000 hours of her time to the University and the Jacksonville community. Upon graduating in 1994 with her M.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling, Ms. Webb left the UNF Women's Center and, with the help of many determined women, turned her attention and volunteer efforts to establishing a nonprofit, community-wide, resource center for women and their families. The Women's Center of Jacksonville officially opened its doors in July 1995.

The Women's Center Board of Directors
The Women's Center of Jacksonville is led by a dynamic Board of Directors, comprised of community leaders who are deeply committed to our mission and who come from diverse backgrounds. Each Board member receives orientation training and is required to sit on one of the Board committees. These committees include: FundDevelopment, Finance, Board Development, Technology, and a Strategic Planning Committee. Board members serve three-year terms and attend an annual Board Retreat. Board meetings are held monthly with committee meetings held monthly between full Board meetings. The Board Development Committee arranges for Board trainings as necessary and reviews Board composition annually in order to ensure that the Board reflects the community we serve. Based on that review process, potential Board members are recruited and elections take place at the Annual meeting of the Board held within ninety days of the close of the fiscal year.

Come in and see the new exhibit at the Women’s Center of Jacksonville. The ONE in THREE exhibit lifts the faces and stories of 20 current and former Duval County Public School students through dramatic portraits by photographer Ingrid Damiani.
Their stories demonstrate the power of an engaged community that works ONE by ONE to ensure that all students are successful in school. They show the need for every person in our city to get involved in public education. In their eyes, you will find no despair—only hope.
