Call to Artists for
"On the Map"

General Information

  • The Women's Center of Jacksonville is a nonprofit resource center for women and their families. Our mission is to support and empower women by nurturing mind body and spirit, and to advocate for the dignity and respect of all women.
  • Art & Soul is an ongoing series of exhibits by women artists and is designed to provide opportunities for celebrating women's expression as well as to invite the public to view the work of women artists. Educational workshops are offered concurrently with the exhibits throughout the year.

Call for Artists

  • Art & Soul accepting submissions from women artists to participate in “On the Map”. Works selected will be selected for a three-month exhibition at the Women’s Center, 5644 Colcord Avenue.

Details

  • The theme of this show is our world: landscapes, architecture, and things made of natural materials. All forms of media are sought.
  • This Call for Artists is open to all women artists working in the Southeast region.
  • Entries must be original and be postmarked by April 29, 2008. Incomplete applications and/or materials will not be considered.
  • Applications are available on-line or by calling the Women's Center at 904-722-3000.
  • All work must be for sale. The Women's Center will receive 40% of all sales.
  • Work must be properly framed, wired, labeled and ready to hang.
  • The Art & Soul committee will supervise installation of all artwork.
  • An opening reception will be held on July 17, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Artists are encouraged to attend.

Selection Process

  • This is an open call. However, due to space limitations not all entries will be accepted. A committee of art professionals will select artists for exhibition.

Submission Materials and Deadlines

  • A completed application. Download an application form (requires Acrobat Reader), pick up a copy at WCJ or call WCJ (722-3000) to request a faxed or mailed copy.
  • A maximum of five photos, each labeled with name of artist, title, dimensions and indication of proper orientation. E-mailed images in the format of powerpoint or jpg are acceptable.
  • Photo list including artist name, title, media, dimensions, date, value and other applicable notes.
  • Current professional resume.
  • A one-paragraph artist's statement.
  • Stamped, self-addressed envelope if return of submission materials is desired.
  • There is no entry fee.
  • Postmark deadline is April 29, 2008.
  • All entrants will be notified of the results by May 6, 2008.
